Tried & True Varnish Oil is a natural wood finish made from a superior blend of linseed oil and natural pine resin for added durability and scratch-resistance. Its resilience makes it an ideal finish for high-use surfaces such as tables, countertops, and interior furniture. Varnish Oil is commonly used by woodworking professionals for application to bare wood or overtop an already-stained piece.
Tried & True Wood Finishes are environmentally-friendly products with all natural ingredients that are safe and easy to apply. Instead of a high glossy look as seen with most conventional wood finishes, it will cure to a beautiful satin sheen that is meant to highlight the natural beauty and grain of the wood.
Made in the USA. Also available in pints.
Helpful tip: A common misconception about wood finishes is the more you use, the better it will look. However, using too much product can result in blotchy or uneven finishes, extremely long cure times, and other problems. Tried & True products are meant to be applied extremely thin. A good gauge for this is to apply just enough product to cause a dry-to-wet color shift in the wood without making it look "wet" with oil.
Don't forget your cloths/pads!

Directions
- Give it a good stir before you apply.
- Burnish with a soft cloth or 0000 steel wool before every coat (even the first and last). The more you rub the surface, the better the sheen will look.
- Apply a very thin coat across entire piece with a lint-free cloth at room temperature. A dry-to-wet color change in the wood should occur. A little bit of finish will go a long way! Do not use a brush.
- Allow oil to penetrate the wood for a minimum of 60 minutes.
- Rub in briskly with a lint-free cloth until the surface is completely dry. Do this before you let the piece cure. Drying/curing issues will occur if this step is ignored. If little or no residue comes up on the clean cloth during this step, then you have used the correct amount of finish.
- Allow the piece to cure for a minimum of 24 hours.
- Additional coats will deepen the sheen and increase protection. No more than three coats is recommended.

This varnish oil is very nice to work with. The natural ingredients make it non-toxic and the smell is pleasant. Doesn’t give a headache or make me feel sick. I am using this on old pieces of driftwood and it’s soaking in nicely. The consistency is nice because it can get in the cracks but still soak in so doesn’t leave any residue or stickiness. It’s smooth and not oily feeling. It leaves a beautiful matte oiled look, (not glossy) once it’s soaked in. I am really liking how it’s turned this old dry wood into hydrated and alive wood. All the grain patterns and textures have darkened and the wood looks ‘happy’ and can still ‘breathe’. Highly recommend!
OakTree Supply has been great to order from! They clearly care about their products, the way it came wrapped and shipped tightly with good labeling showing liquid and fragile. I plan to order again! Thanks OakTree!
This product is easy to apply and the results are very good. I have tried Osmo Polyx, Rubio Monocoat, Minwax rub on poly, shellac and other products. Each has their place. I recommend that you try using this polymerized linseed oil finish. It is not high gloss(which I prefer). It is food safe and has very little odor.
