The Nova S 520 is a heavy-duty, 20” planer designed to meet the needs of the most demanding environments. It features a monoblock base, a work table with support rollers, and a XYLENT cutterhead. The large capacity and 4-speed feed system make the Nova S 520 Planer a powerhouse for high production shops.
Monoblock technology is used in the design and fabrication of this base. The solid, welded base undergoes a treatment called normalization, which stabilizes the metal and assures exact tolerances. All machine mechanisms are mounted, aligned, and referenced to the base. This design is vastly superior to frames that are bolted together and have no true reference point.
All SCM planers use four jack screws with acme style threads and dust covers for maximum table support. In addition to providing a stable lifting system that eliminates sniping, the acme threads greatly increase the longevity of what is normally the most common wear item on planers. Through a patented design, there is a special bushing between the drive chain and sprocket, which doesn’t allow any pressure from the chain to reach the jack screw.
The Nova S 520 features interchangeable support rollers. Used when planing raw, uneven lumber, the rollers allow irregular material to be planed that would not feed on a standard table. When the material has been processed flat on one side, the rollers can be lowered to allow a clean pass on the other side.
The Nova S 520 X comes with a XYLENT Cutterhead. XYLENT is the quietest and most durable knife option, making it suitable for heavier cuts. It significantly reduces decibel output from the jointer. It also improves dust extraction since it produces very small chips. The spiral cutterhead shears at an angle instead of cutting head on, minimizing any rippling pattern left on the workpiece.
