Most woodturning lathes lock you into a standing position, which can lead to fatigue, discomfort, and even downtime. The 1236SD Lathe solves that problem with a versatile design that lets you work standing or sitting—ideal for reducing strain and protecting your long-term health. Its rotating bed configuration makes switching positions quick and easy, so you can settle into the posture that feels best. Simply rotate the bed to the seated position and keep turning with the same precision, efficiency, and comfort you expect.
The 1236SD’s headstock is built around a durable three-bearing spindle for smooth, reliable performance. Up front, an angular contact bearing is secured with a clamp ring and lock nut to keep radial and axial play to a minimum. The rear bearings are designed to float, giving the spindle room to expand as it heats up. Because the bearings are fully greased and sealed for life, you get long-term, maintenance-free operation.
A spindle nose, which holds the front bearings, protrudes approximately 1-1/2" in front of the headstock. This allows easy tool maneuvering when working on the backside of projects. The spindle is 1"-8TPI with a groove machined for a lock screw. This design contributes to the safety of this machine, as it reduces the possibility of chucks or faceplates accidentally unscrewing from the spindle.
The tailstock has a 1-1/8" diameter quill with 3" travel. A super rigid tailstock clamp is designed to ensure that no flexing will occur under clamp pressure. The clamp holds firmly while requiring no adjustment for the life of the lathe and will retain the ease of movement of the tailstock along the bed.
The drive package on the 1236SD Lathe is fully electronic and utilizes an AC electronic inverter with variable speed (0 - 4,000 RPM) including full speed reverse. The drive motor is mounted directly below the headstock. A controller comes programmed and ready for use with built-in ramp up/ramp down and dynamic braking. This is a top quality drive, single phase AC in, three phase out.
All Oneway Lathes feature their patented banjo/tool rest base design, created to solve problems associated with traditional cam-lock bases like deflection. Oneway replaces the regular long cam shaft with a sliding cam assembly. The tool rest is clamped into the tool rest base with a captured non-marking block. This sliding cam clamping mechanism ensures tight clamping and smooth operation.
All Oneway Lathes are backed by a 10-year END-TO-END Warranty. This warranty covers everything: the motor, drive, belt, switches, bearings, electrics, etc.
