The Formula S 540P Band Saw is the big brother of the S 440P. For those looking for single-phase power, but with a larger throat and even more resaw capacity, this is the machine for you. With all of the features of its smaller brother, this bandsaw will resaw up to 20” of material, excellent for making your own veneer!
The Formula S 540P comes with upper and lower European-style guides. These guides allow for quick and easy adjustment without the need for tools. They can also be adjusted up or down to accommodate the table's tilting angle. When the table is flat, you can raise the guides all the way up to decrease the distance between between them, maintaining stability through your cut.
This machine boasts plenty of features. Thick cast-iron wheels are perfectly balanced to reduce vibration and produce a flywheel effect to aid in the processing of your pieces. Heavy-duty steel frames are the most rigid in their class and are designed to withstand the tension required for a carbide-tipped blade.
The Formula S 540P also has vulcanized tires that not only bond the rubber tires to the wheel, but also fuse them so they become like one, which means greater transfer of power. This also makes it nearly impossible to shred them if a blade breaks, and there is less wear and maintenance over their lifetime.
Two dust ports are included on this band saw, not just one like most others. This helps ensure that you will capture more debris, more efficiently.

Optional Installation & Training
When purchased, installation will be performed by an SCM factory-trained service technician or certified dealer technician. Installation is defined as assembling the machine to its "ready-to-run" state; it does not include floor/masonry work or running electrical, pneumatic, or dust extraction services. Training will be conducted on site by the technician after installation is completed.

SCM warrants that every machine is free of defects in workmanship and materials for a period of one (1) year beginning on the date the machinery is accepted by the customer. Belts, bearings, and common electrical parts carry a six-month warranty. This warranty does not include wearable items or maintenance required in the ordinary course of operation.

If I owned the company, I would make the following modifications:
Make the upper and lower doors swing independently of each other
Move the table to the right 6” - and offer table extension s
Add a window to view the blade on the wheel
Delete the plastic window at the cutting surface - the plastic is reflective so you can’t see the blade/cut line.
Offer casters as an option.
The saw has plenty of power - in the two weeks I’ve had it I have used a 1/4” blade to cut 2” thick walnut very curvey table legs and 1” blade to resaw 8” walnut. Did both with zero sign of strain. Main dislike is that the blade will pull forward when backing slowly and carefully out of a cut. It’s very sensitive to this. Twice the blade has come off the fly-wheels. I need SCM to help with this. My entry level Jet bandsaw never did it. It’s scary.
Other than the dislike above, I’m very happy with the saw.
Saw and carbide blade are performing as expected. Would be helpful to have a blade tension gauge, though the tension scale on saw seems adequate.
