The FS 30C is the ultimate space-saving jointer/planer combo. It delivers premium power in a compact size without compromising on quality. Made in Italy, this robust machine boasts features such as a long 59” cast-iron table, 4.8HP single-phase motor, and a quick-tilting jointer fence. With one of the quickest change-over times in the industry, the FS 30C is a no-brainer for shops with limited space looking for a high-quality, two-in-one solution.
For small one- or two-person shops where space is tight, a jointer/planer combo delivers serious capability without the footprint of two separate machines. Instead of juggling a narrow jointer and a portable planer (often on wheels or in storage), you get wider jointing capacity and robust planing in one setup. That means fewer workarounds for common stock, more horsepower, and consistently better results.
The Minimax FS 30C comes with a XYLENT Cutterhead. XYLENT is the quietest and most durable knife option, making it suitable for heavier cuts. It significantly reduces decibel output from the jointer. It also improves dust extraction since it produces very small chips. The spiral cutterhead shears at an angle instead of cutting head on, minimizing any rippling pattern left on the workpiece.
Changing between jointer and planer on the FS 30C is quicker and easier than on similar machines. This is thanks to the two dust collection outlets (one for the jointer, the other for the planer) being positioned on the same side. Also, when changing back from planer to jointer, it is not required to drop the planer table all the way down. The entire changeover process can be done in under a minute!
Also included is an American-style, OSHA-approved standard guard. American safety standards state that when the guard is moved out of the way and let go, it must automatically recover the cutterhead, which is why the American “pork chop” guard is standard. It is spring-loaded to comply with American safety standards.

The SCM FS 30C-X is an outstanding machine and an ideal choice for small shops. The castings and fittings are top-notch, and the Xylent cutterhead handles cherry, ash, and other hardwoods with impressive speed and clarity. The fence is rock-solid yet easy to remove, and the changeover process is quick and intuitive—Sam Blasco’s video demonstrates this perfectly.
For mobility, the machine pairs flawlessly with Zambus Carrymaster AC-300S Light & Medium Duty Stem Leveling Casters, which I highly recommend. I also own the SCM Formula 440, which has been excellent as well, and which I installed the Carry Master casters.
A couple of small drawbacks are worth noting. The U.S.-required OSHA guard, while compliant, reduces the effective cutting width to just under 12", which may matter for wider stock. Additionally, the fence stiffening rod works as intended, but its attachment feels somewhat like an afterthought compared to the otherwise refined engineering throughout the machine.
SCM’s customer service can be a bit uneven at times, but their shop expert, Sam Blasco, is exceptional. His knowledge of these machines is unmatched, and his guidance and suggestions are invaluable.
Overall, despite a few minor compromises, this is a superb jointer-planer combo that delivers professional performance in a compact footprint.
