The dovetail joint is a classic woodworking connection that appeals to both professionals and novices alike. This traditional joint is often found on furniture and cabinets.

Two passes are recommended when routing dovetails with a template. Check that the dovetails have been cut through completely and smoothly before removing the workpiece. For even easier routing and less stress on your dovetail bit, run the first pass with a straight bit. Use a dovetail on your router table equipped with a fence to achieve difficult chamfer angles.

Why CMT Router Bits?

  • Multi-Axis Grinding: Each cutting edge is ground to micron-level accuracy, producing a razor-sharp edge and a true mirror finish. The result is cleaner cuts, less tear-out, and significantly longer edge life, even in dense hardwoods.
  • Anti-Kickback Design: Engineered cutting geometry controls chip load and limits how aggressively the bit engages the material. This improves operator control and reduces the risk of kickback.
  • Hi-Density Industrial Chrome Carbide: Hot Isostatic Pressing eliminates microscopic voids in the carbide, creating a denser, more uniform cutting edge that resists chipping and holds sharpness longer.
  • Tri-Metal Brazing: A Silver–Copper–Silver brazing system creates a stronger bond between carbide and steel while absorbing cutting vibration. This protects the cutting edge and improves performance in hardwoods and composite materials.
  • Non-Stick Orange Shield Coating: Reduces heat and pitch buildup, resists corrosion, and keeps the bit cutting freely for longer service life.
  • Superior High-Strength Steel: Manufactured from premium Swiss-sourced steel bar stock for superior balance, fatigue resistance, and vibration control at high RPMs.
